Pressure on Security Minister to come clean on information withheld under the Tories in July 2023 on the threat to Sikh activists
London – 10 November 2025
The Sikh Federation (UK) has today sent a follow up letter to Dan Jarvis, the Security Minister requesting an urgent meeting. This follows the letter last Thursday following the Bloomberg documentary titled ‘Inside the deaths that rocked India’s relations with the West’[1] and the associated article ‘Finish Him Brother’[2].
The UK Government is nervous about India’s reaction as there have been dozens of critical media reports in India referring to the role of British intelligence that was not previously publicly reported.[3] Sky News interviewed Moninder Singh from Sikh Federation Canada who was visiting the UK and Jas Singh from the Sikh Federation (UK) on 8 November.[4]
Dan Jarvis has today been given additional information about the meeting on 18 July 2023 with Tom Tugendhat, the Security Minister at that time under the Tories. The meeting was with a delegation of Labour MPs following the mysterious death of Avtar Singh Khanda in Birmingham on 15 June and the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada on 18 June.
During the meeting Labour MPs raised concerns about the operation of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the UK, including putting out on Indian television in early July 2023 a “hit-list” of Sikh activists and claiming responsibility for the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and Avtar Singh Khanda.
The letter urges Dan Jarvis to come clean as the “cover up” was “under the Tory watch” when Indian RAW agent Sarvesh Raj was quietly expelled from the UK without explanation in July 2023. The fact the Indian authorities made little or no fuss about the expulsion of Sarvesh Raj adds to the suspicion that he was up to no good in the UK. The risk for the current Labour government is they will get blamed for what emerges about what took place under the Tory watch.
The UK will be nervous as there could be other information from court proceedings in Canada or the US or from Five Eyes partners providing further details of British intelligence that was kept secret. Sikhs will be meeting and addressing dozens of MPs tomorrow evening in Parliament form 6-9pm in Committee Room 10 and referring to this live issue.
The letter to Dan Jarvis has been copied to Yvette Copper, the Foreign Secretary who will be aware of India’s reaction following the revelation by Bloomberg.
